    "body": "## Summary\n\nWhen an existing Work has no authors, reimporting it with an author name containing an honorific can fail to attach an already existing Author record.\n\nFor example, if `/authors/OL9A` is stored as `John Smith`, reimporting the Work with `Dr. John Smith` leaves its `authors` field empty. Using `John Smith` instead successfully attaches the existing Author.\n\nThe normal edition-import path removes author honorifics before author lookup, but the Work enrichment path calls `author_import_record_to_author()` without applying the same normalization.\n\nWhen the unnormalized name fails to resolve to an existing Author, the resulting candidate lacks a `key` and is omitted from the Work's author list.\n\n## Version and environment\n\n- Repository: https://github.com/internetarchive/openlibrary\n- Checked commit: `6d66f877b83af3d4557d766f4f156165add8e405` (source checked on 2026-10-25).\n- Linux; Python 3.14.5 and the checkout’s test requirements. The parsing checks use luqum 0.11.0.
